For almost any type of information on aircraft, aircraft issues, and a comprehensive look at almost any aviation issue, we recommend John Eakin and his company, Air Data Research.  John has been flying or fixing aircraft for over 40 years, and holds  Airline Transport Pilot, Flight Instructor, and Airframe and Powerplant mechanic certificates.  He has vast experience in computer and aircraft databases, which, when combined with his practical experience, provide a terrific resource.  As John says, he “speaks the language of aviation.”

He works with clients to provide the best and most up-to-date information that avoids erroneous results.  He does this by combining the on-line databases with his in-house database and library to ensure completeness, filtered through his on-hands experience.  His database searches include civil aircraft accident/incident reports, Service Difficulty Reports, and specialized searches such Type Certificate Data Sheets, military aircraft, Airworthiness Directives, and other searches tailored to an individual’s or company’s needs.

Anytime I am looking into an aviation matter– fixed-wing, helicopter, commercial, general aviation, maintenance, aircraft history, etc.–I start with Air Data Research.  Usually a short discussion with John Eakin results in some preliminary helpful knowledge regarding my inquiry and a suggestion on what searches might prove helpful.  Frequently he offers insights that are original and useful.  John’s breadth of knowledge, and the extent of his knowledge of people in the aviation world, are impressive.

Reading his aviation newsletter always provides insightful and sometimes controversial ideas.  It’s a “must-read.”  You can sign up here.
